<div><strong> </strong></div>
<div><strong>In Brief</strong></div>
<div>Our Trading’</div>
<div>As you will notice from the Treasurer’s Half Yearly Report, we are trading at a similar level as 2011, areas of increase being sponsorship and barefoot bowls.  As I have stated previously the board is regularly monitoring expenses without reducing any benefits to its members.  In this financial climate I consider the six monthly results as satisfactory.</div>
<div>We are in the process of introducing Induction Officers for each section.  These members will assist new members and introduce them to the appropriate people, Games Organiser and Coaches, give them general information about the Club, playing times, nomination sheets, playing attire, social calendar, and any other items of interest.</div>
<div>Everyone who participated in the men’s social event conducted Thursday evenings,  had a great few weeks.  Events such as this create harmony and camaraderie  amongst our members and I again thank all those who assisted our Club in                organizing this event.</div>
<div>The Club has secured a new sponsor in Kelvin Kerkow’s Bowls World at West Burleigh.  Where possible I would ask you to please support this excellent outlet for all bowls attire etc.</div>
<div>Much has been said about the Gold Super Challenge win, but I think it is appropriate to recognise this as probably the Clubs greatest accomplishment and to be attained in our 75th Anniversary year!  We may have reached the level where we are not intimidated by any Club.  Congratulations to all!</div>
<div>As part of our anniversary celebrations a Triples Event was organised for both sections but for various reasons there were not sufficient numbers to proceed.  Both sections will now conduct 2 Pairs Events during the year and I would expect these to prove popular.  Ample time will be given for members to enter for very good prize money.</div>
<div>I have had a meeting with Michael Hart the new State M.P for Burleigh Heads and I am confident we will continue to have a very good association with our local member, as we do with Councillor Greg Betts.  There are occasions when situations can occur where intervention and assistance is required.</div>
<div>On Sunday morning the 6th of May we will be conducting a session called “Bring a Buddy Day”, previously explained by President Peter Hamilton.  The aim being to introduce a friend to bowls with each visitor playing with an existing member and this may be the first step in securing a new bowling member.  Again if you don’t try you don’t succeed</div>

<div><strong>Camels Corner</strong></div>
<div>SUNDAY 25th March</div>
<div>This day was the Tugun Two Guns Annual Gala Day and it was indeed a Gala Day. Our bus departed Burleigh at 8:15 with 18 Camels and we picked up one on the way down. Lots of Sunday morning bowlers in attendance indicated a great day for all.</div>
<div>Sth Tweed Trippers&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. 13 bowlers</div>
<div>Pottsville Pirates&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;16 bowlers</div>
<div>Burleigh Camels&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;19 bowlers</div>
<div>Robina Rebels&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; 20 bowlers</div>
<div>Tugun Two Guns&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;27 bowlers</div>
<div>Plus one visiting rink from each of Coolangatta and Tweed Bowls Clubs.   A total of 101 guys ready to enjoy Sunday bowling. The morning was played out in beautiful weather and camaraderie with play ending just before midday. Each club had trophies to present with the Camels team of Chris Anderson, Stephan Mullawa and Pete Harris taking home the Two Guns Trophy. Unfortunately there were no winners from the Camels in the raffle draw. A delightful lunch of a huge hamburger,  which was preceded by the Two Guns famous boiled potatoes with butter, garlic and curry powder during the morning, went a long way in appeasing the players appetites.  Transport for visiting bowlers started departing shortly after 1:30 with an enjoyable morning had by all.</div>
<div>Sunday 1st April</div>
<div>Sunday morning, 7.15am, the dawn of another bright day, lo and behold 17 Camels were observed grazing outside the Burleigh Bowls Club waiting to be herded on board the transport vehicle. This was to take them south to the land of the Pottsville Pirates, who in recognition of the importance of the day, had turned their clocks backwards by one hour. This was done so as not to disturb the Camel’s feeding routine.  The day saw the battle between these 17 Camels with flailing hooves and sweet breaths do battle with 23 Pirates with drawn sabres and howling their war cry of AAAAAAGGGH.</div>
<div>A truce was declared at 12 noon with the Pirates being declared winners of the battle with 88 points to 80. The intensity of the long running war could be observed by the fact that the Camel’s War Correspondent put down 2 wrong bias’s.  A Raffle was drawn with the Camels rewarded with wins by Jim McCall, Mick Boland, Clive McKenzie, Al Smith and Jakob Wissman. The platoon led by Wally Kitchen ably supported by Ted Dorrington with Pete Harris and “Strawb” Thompson sharing the 3rd spot in triple combat.  After a lunch which offered a choice of Fish, Steak or Chicken Schnitzel all served with chips and salad, the battle weary Camels boarded their transport back to the home paddock.</div>
<div>Sunday 8th April</div>
<div>This day saw virtually no play for the 19 expectant and hopeful Camels that rocked up. We did however, get a few ends in with the winning rink being the Pope, Denny, with Pete Harris and Herbie sharing. A raffle was held with the winners being Clive, Harry and Ray Dodkin.</div>
<div><strong>Coaching Notes</strong></div>
<div>Last month I finished with the promise of how to play advanced shots, conversions, drives, trails etc.. I thought I would start with the Trail Shot, a shot played to move the jack to a more advantageous position within the head without losing your bowl in the ditch if you should miss. In reality, this shot is a draw to a point behind and to the side of the jack, usually played to take the jack to some of your own bowls or to take the jack away from your opposition. You must be able to visualise the path of your bowl, particularly in it’s last 3 metres of travel.  Remember, the picture you have in your head probably tells you the bowl cuts in toward the jack at a fairly steep angle, but in-fact, it travels much along an arc. Have someone bowl your bowls to you standing behind the jack and note how far, and at what angle, your bowl moves sideways in it’s last 3 metres of run. This indicates to you the point to which you need to draw to pick up the jack on the way through.  With most modern bowls to finish, say 1 metre behind jack, you would need to draw to a point some ½ metre to the side, practice this shot until you can achieve 3 out of 4 successful shots. It helps when practising to place an extra jack, or marker of some sort, at the point to which you are trying to draw as a focal point.  Remember, a short bowl will achieve nothing and a bowl in the ditch which is a non-toucher is also useless. Don’t lose your bowl and do concentrate on your line and weight.</div>
<div>I now have another coach, who tells me he is my apprentice, Noel Hodges is an accredited Club Coach and is anxious to get started and involved. On Tuesday 15th May at 2.00pm, we will be running a video filming session for any members who would like to see their delivery  action and allow us to assess it to see if there are any ways we could help you improve your game. We appreciate that everyone has a unique delivery because each person’s body causes them to deliver slightly differently.  We won’t attempt to change you unless you are doing something which is obviously detracting from your ability to be consistent, and then we will only suggest you could try something else. We hope you will come along and be involved.</div>
<div>Good Bowling and enjoy</div>

<div>Men&#8217;s Singles</div>
<div>Quarter Finals</div>
<div>G. Pearson 25 V S. O’Toole 20</div>
<div>Burleigh is very lucky to have bowlers of very high quality.  These two are part of our top group.  What a game.  Pearson won the Ends 16 to 15 but managed to get two more multiple Ends than O’Toole.  This won him the game.  Great to watch, make sure you see the semi—finals.</div>
<div>Semi Finals</div>
<div>A.Waddell 25 Verses M. Pattison 8</div>
<div>Waddell was on fire and only lost 7 Ends to beat Pattison by 17 shots.  A great win.</div>
<div>I. Law 25 Verses G. Pearson 24</div>
<div>The game of the century.  Law won the Ends 13 to 12 and also got on top of the multiple Ends by 8 to 7.  This shows how close this game was and boy what a game.  Top class.</div>
<div>Final</div>
<div>A. Waddell 25 Verses I. Law 22</div>
<div>A great final.  It took 31 Ends to get a decision.  Waddell won the Ends 17 to 14 and more importantly won the multiple Ends by 8 to 5.  Played in great spirit.  A pleasure to watch.</div>
<div><strong>Super Challenge</strong></div>

<div>Burleigh Heads v Swifts  Won 3-2</div>
<div>Singles</div>
<div>I. Law 28 v S. Bell 31</div>
<div>A fantastic game.  It took 42 Ends to get a winner.  Bell won the Ends 22 to 20 and the margin in the end was only 3 shots and this was Law’s first loss.</div>
<div>Pairs 1</div>
<div>D. McKillop &amp; A. Waddell (sk) 18</div>
<div>Verses Swifts 17</div>
<div>This game nearly got away from our boys when on second last End they dropped 5 shots to let Swifts all square with one End to play, but no fear, our boys got 1shot to win.  A great effort.</div>
<div>Pairs 2</div>
<div>R. Marin &amp; G. Pearson (sk) 22</div>
<div>Verses Swifts 16</div>
<div>We led from End 1 and never relented.  Our boys got 15 shots in five multiple Ends to seal a good victory.</div>
<div>Triples</div>
<div>G. Absalom, P. Street, G. Woods (sk) 29</div>
<div>Verses Swifts 18</div>
<div>This team is going well.  They won the Ends 17 to 11 and got 10 multiple Ends to Swifts getting 4 Ends.  Playing very well</div>
<div>Fours</div>
<div>M. Myers, L. Landon, S. O’Toole, M. Pattison (sk) 26</div>
<div>Verses Swifts 29</div>
<div>We had some good recoveries like after 6 Ends we were down 1 to 14, then on End 13 it was 16 all.  Led 22 to 19 after End 17 then dropped 8 shots in the next 6 Ends to go down by 3 shots 26 to 29.  A good effort.</div>
<div>Summary :  Three good wins is all you need.  Well done.</div>
<div>Play offs  Gold Team  Round 2</div>
<div>Burleigh Heads v Mooloolaba Won 3-2</div>
<div>Singles:</div>
<div>I. Law 31 verses Mooloolaba 17</div>
<div>Law won the Ends 16 to 13 but the real strength in his win was the 13 multiple Ends where he scored two shots or better.  A determined win.</div>
<div>Pairs 1</div>
<div>D. McKillop &amp; A. Waddell (sk)21</div>
<div>Verses Mooloolaba 19</div>
<div>Our boys got stirred up on End 15 when they dropped 5 shots to be down by eight shots 11 to 19.  In the next 6 Ends they won the lot and the game by 2 shots to keep their record intact.  A marvellous win.</div>
<div>Pairs 2</div>
<div>C. Vella &amp; G. Pearson (sk) 16</div>
<div>Verses Mooloolaba 24</div>
<div>Should never have lost this game.  Won the Ends 14 to 7, all of them lost were multiple losses so good bye.</div>
<div>Triples</div>
<div>G. Absalom, P. Street, G. Woods (sk)29</div>
<div>Verses Mooloolaba 18</div>
<div>This team is in outstanding form.  Won the Ends 17 to 11 and never looked like getting beaten.  A great win.</div>
<div>Fours</div>
<div>M. Myers, L. Landon, S. O’Toole,</div>
<div>M. Pattison (sk) 19</div>
<div>Verses Mooloolaba 28</div>
<div>We lost the Ends 11 to 14 and were never in front at anytime so unfortunately we lost gracefully.</div>
<div>Summary:  Two games, two wins.  Need 1 more to be in the Final.  Go for it.</div>
<div>Burleigh Heads v North Toowoomba Won 9 &#8211; 2</div>
<div>Round 3</div>
<div>Singles</div>
<div>I. Law 31 v North Toowoomba 20</div>
<div>A comprehensive win.  Law won the Ends 19 to 14 and then to top it off he won the multiple Ends 9 to 4.  That is all you need…. He won very comfortably.</div>
<div>Pairs 1</div>
<div>D. McKillop &amp;  A. Waddell (sk) 24</div>
<div>Verses North Toowoomba 16</div>
<div>Our boys won 12 of the first 13 Ends to lead 23 to 1.  They then lost the next 6 Ends to get a lead of 23 to 14.  In the last two Ends  they scored 1 each to get the team across the line by 8 shots.  A great win.</div>
<div>Pairs 2</div>
<div>R. Marin 7 G. Pearson (sk) 23</div>
<div>Verses North Toowoomba 17</div>
<div>We won the Ends 13 to 8 and also the multiple Ends by 6 to 4.  This team was never in doubt of winning.  A top win.</div>
<div>Triples</div>
<div>G. Absalom, P. Street,G. Woods (sk)23</div>
<div>Verses North Toowoomba 27</div>
<div>Looking good after End 19 when leading 16 to 14.  In the next 9 Ends we lost 6 of them including 5 shots on End 22 which was really the difference.  Bad luck.</div>
<div>Fours</div>
<div>M. Myers, L. Landon, S. O’Toole, M. Pattison (sk) 20</div>
<div>Verses North Toowoomba 24</div>
<div>You could say that one End cost us this game.  Ends were 12 to 13 in favor of North Toowoomba whilst the multiple Ends were 6 all.  However, the one End was End 7 when we lost 5 shots.  They had to make this up particularly when you loose 3 shots on the next End.  Draw bowling beats driving.</div>
<div>Summary:  Our strength is in our top three sides, singles, two pairs plus the triples who won 2 of 3 games in the finals.  We play Musgrave Hill next Sunday so good luck.</div>
<div>FINALS</div>
<div>Burleigh Heads Verses  Musgrave Hill Won 3-2</div>
<div>Singles</div>
<div>I. Law 31 v Musgrave Hill  28</div>
<div>What a game.  Law lost the Ends 17 to 18 but to his credit were the multiple scores he got on 7 ends to Musgrave Hill, getting 6 multiple Ends.  The difference came in End 34 when Law got a 4 shot End to give him a 30 to 28 lead and on the next End he got 1 shot to win .  A fantastic quality game.</div>
<div>Pairs 1</div>
<div>D. McKillop &amp; A. Waddell (sk) 20</div>
<div>Verses Musgrave Hill 17</div>
<div>Very close game.  The difference came from End 12 to End 18 when they got 11 shots which they held till End 21 came up.  A good win.</div>
<div>Pairs 2</div>
<div>R. Marin &amp; G. Pearson (sk) 25</div>
<div>Verses Musgrave Hill 21</div>
<div>This game meant that Burleigh either won or lost the title.  It was all square at 21 all on End 20.  To their credit they got 4 shots on End 21 to win by 4 shots.  A fantastic win.</div>
<div>Triples</div>
<div>G. Absalom, P. Street,  G. Woods (sk) 21</div>
<div>Verses Musgrave Hill 24</div>
<div>On End 14 we led 14 to 13 but in the next 5 Ends our boys went down by 11 shots so there was no hope of saving the game.</div>
<div>Fours</div>
<div>
<p>L. Landon, C. Vella, M. Pattison, S. O’Toole (sk) 23</p>
<p>Verses Musgrave Hill 26</p>
<p>We lost this game on Ends 8 to 11 when we lost 13 shots in a row to make it impossible to catch up.  Bad luck.</p>
<p>Conclusion:  Our boys deserve the win.  It is the second time we have beaten</p>
<p>Musgrave Hill by 1 game.  Well done.</p>

<div><strong> </strong></div>
<div>In Brief</div>
<div>Two air conditioning units situated on the roof required replacing and we have replaced them with a more effective single unit at the cost of $8,000.  Additionally we have arranged to implement an anti-corrosion treatment which will hopefully prolong the life of the “Outdoor Coils”.  Some of these are beyond saving but the treatment will delay replacement for a reasonable time. We now have 1,300 members who have activated their membership cards,  this compares to 415 at the end of January.  This increase would suggest a significant awareness of the new rewards system and over a 27 day period 4,200 cards passed through the system, at 155 per day.<strong> </strong></div>

<div>Social Membership continues to grow.  Of the 138 joining in February, 108 reside within 10km of the club.  We have noticed an increase in patrons joining as a social members due in part to the Club’s Reward System.</div>
<div>We have negotiated our insurance premium at the same rate for 2011 &#8211; 2012  being $22,000.  Machinery breakdowns have represented our highest claims area which is not unusual for a Club such as ours.</div>
<div>We are in the process of replacing the Clubs photocopying machine.  This will not only give us clearer copies, we also envisage saving approximately $5,000 per year.   Additionally, with new technology we are hopeful this will be used to produce the annual reports and if this occurs a further saving would result.  Thank you Karen for evaluating the Toshiba machine and the costs associated with this transition.</div>

<div><strong> Camels Corner</strong></div>
<div><strong> </strong> Rain certainly got the better of us at the end of February however Camels are known for their affinity with water and all the various products that utilise this commodity. We continue to have prospective new members joining us on Sunday mornings to enjoy our relaxed style of the game. Travelling to other like minded clubs and hosting return visits is part of the experience. Costing is kept to a minimum supported by our popular raffles at home games. All bowlers and learners, be they young or old, are welcome to join us on any Sunday morning for a heartening experience.</div>
<div>
<div>Our big trip to Evans Head will be on the weekend of Sat 30th June and Sunday 1st July. Cost has been set at $130 which includes Transport and refreshments on the bus – Lunch Saturday at Evans Head Bowls Club – Bowls Sat afternoon – Accommodation  Saturday Night at new Motel next to Bowls Club – Breakfast Sun morning – bowls Sunday morning followed by lunch at Bowls Club.  Bus will leave about 8-30 / 9-00 with return approximately 4-30 Sunday.  Deposit of $70 will be required with balance to be paid the 7 days before trip. Deposit will be refundable if position can be filled. (unplanned circumstances will be taken into account).</div>
<div>All players are reminded that on normal Sundays for home or away games, notice would be appreciated if the individual cannot attend on the day</div>
<div>Sunday 26th February</div>
<div>After one of the heaviest rain events seen on the coast this Sunday morning greeted us with sunshine and a light breeze. The ability of our club’s greenkeeper as well as the amazing capability of recovery of the greens allowed us to play host to the Tugun Two Guns on what were predictably slower greens. A pleasant interlude during the play was the provision of boiled Chat Potatoes with butter provided from the kitchen of Salt and Peppers Bistro. By the conclusion of the morning’s play the                  Burleigh Camels had proved once again their superiority over the Two Guns with a runaway victory losing only one rink for the morning.</div>
<div>There were 26 Camels and 15 Two guns playing in the classic way of Sunday morning bowls with the Two Gun’s Trophy going to the rink of Clive McKenzie, Wally Kitching and Jim Heapy. Our newest member, Terry  Cleverly, was presented with his Camel’s Tee Shirt and welcomed into the herd.A roast lunch was enjoyed by all with the Two Guns joining their bus for the trip home around 1:30 pm.</div>
<div>Saturday – Sunday 3rd and 4th March</div>
<div>With the morning skies showing not little promise of a dry weekend 15 Camels (herded by Mick Boland), climbed aboard our bus at 8:30am Saturday for the start of our annual visit to Bribie Island to contest the weekend with the Pumice Stone Pirates at Bongaree Bowls Club. Our numbers were down due to the celebration on Saturday Night of the 60th Birthday of Pat Carmody at the Burleigh Bombers Sports Club. I hear it was a wet affair however the trials and tribulations were overcome and presumably a good time was had by all who attended.</div>
<div>Northbound we ran out of the rain as we descended from the Gateway Bridge and we did not see rain until we came back over the same bridge southbound on Sunday.    Beautiful weather was put on by “Hughie” for the duration of our visit Saturday afternoon after checking into the  motel we all travelled to the Bongaree Bowls Club prepared for battle. We fielded 5 rinks of triples and lost all but one as we realised that the Pirates were indeed a strong club.  After a sausage sizzle and several libations it was left to the individuals to organise the evening meal with several gracing the RSL and some others at the Bribie Island Bowls Club.  An early night was had by all in preparation for Sunday’s game.  On to the bus after checking out we arrived at the Club at 8:30 for a beautiful breakfast  prepared and presented by the ladies of the club with bowls starting shortly after 9 o’clock. Once again 5 rinks and we had very mediocre success finishing at 12 noon for lunch.</div>
<div>Once again the club members provided a hearty meal of steak, sausage and bacon with a well prepared salad which all bowlers appreciated. The raffle was drawn with Ray Dodkin, Wally Kitching and Pete Harris winners. President Al Smith presented Pirates leader, Arthur  Hangan (Skeeter), with a Burleigh Bowls Club Glass and Camels bowls cloth accepting in return a certificate of appreciation for our visit.</div>
<div>We boarded the bus at 1:45 for the return home punctuated by several comfort stops finally returning to Burleigh around 4 o’clock after an enjoyable weekend.  We are looking forward to a return visit from the Pirates on 17th June.</div>
<div>Sunday 11th March</div>
<div>The morning of the Keith Smith Memorial Trophy game was greeted by a kind day weather wise and 17 Camels. We fielded 2 rinks of triples and one rink of pairs. Herbie Carmody was the floater relieving players if required. Unfortunately he was needed when Keith Wheelan lost his footing stepping up from the green and fell heavily in the vicinity of the water fountain. One of our members, Denny Edwards, was able to provide his nursing knowledge and Keith was seen off in an ambulance with a badly lacerated mouth. We hope he returns soon.  The Keith Smith Memorial Trophy was presented to Russel Newton, Pete Harris and Jakob Wissman by Keith’s widow with the raffle going to Wally Kitching, Brian Raw and Alan Smith.  Bowlers and members of the Smith family settled down to refreshments and hot chips before heading off to their respective homes.</div>
<div>Sunday 18th March</div>
<div>We must be blessed with weather for the Camels. Once again heavy rain Saturday afternoon and evening followed by a fine Sunday morning and this greeted 21 Camels as they gathered to combat the 13 guys from The Gap in Brisbane. These travellers had journeyed down from the big smoke on Sat morning and stayed overnight at Burleigh Palms. They played Sat afternoon prior to the rain setting in. After sampling the Burleigh hospitality Saturday Night they rocked up for breakfast, bright eyed and bushy tailed, at our buffet breakfast. There were only words of praise for the food supplied by Leesa and her staff and the service given.  We played 5 rinks of triples and a rink of 3 bowl pairs with play being interrupted midway through the               morning with Prawns put out for our exquisite palates. Play continued till midday when we adjourned inside for the   raffle draw and trophy presentations. The perpetual trophy for combat between the Camels and the Gap once again went to the Camels with a total of 81 points to the Gap’s 61. The Gap’s rink trophy went to Clive McKenzie, Roy Menzies and “Yogi” Thompson with raffle winners being Jakob, Wally, Yogi and Steph, with the Gap picking up a prize as well.  Players then enjoyed the Roast Lunch provided by the Bistro and the Gap players joined their bus at around 1:30 for the journey back up the M1 looking forward to their next trip down here on 29th July.</div>
<div><strong>Coaching Notes from Ron</strong></div>
<div>The control of weight and the ability to visualize the path of your bowl are probably the most important points in playing good,  consistent bowls.  As a new bowler you had so many thoughts racing through your head  to ensure your delivery was smooth and repeatable, however your weight    control was somewhat hit and miss.  Once you have developed your delivery to the point where you really don’t think about it’s mechanics, you need to train your muscles and senses to deliver correct weight.  Most players were taught weight control initially by control of arm speed or, from the elevation theory, the higher the start point the longer and faster the swing.  In addition to this your body has inbuilt sensors and a rather powerful computer called the brain to compute speed.</div>
<div>Elite bowlers prepare for a delivery by visualizing the path of the bowl and the bowl finishing it’s run exactly where        required.  They develop a “feel” for the delivery from the weight  of the bowl, their perceptions of the pace of the green and senses  in their bowling arm and shoulder.  This takes a lot of practice and concentration on the ‘feel” of a delivery.  Such  rehearsal provides a mental pattern for their largely automatic delivery movement to produce the  bowl speed required.  They use hand and eye coordination for intuitively integrating gravity force with muscular force in executing the movement.</div>
<div>A corrective delivery for a bowl finishing 1 meter short of it’s target requires only 2 ½ more revolutions of the bowl to be perfect.  You need to make this slight variation by “sensing” the extra bowl speed rather than by deliberately deciding to change your delivery mode.  You should have trained your body to produce this result, so let your sub-conscious mind do it’s job without interference from you. <br />You will need to be able to visualise the path travelled by your bowl in the run to the jack, to be able to play trail and others through the head shots.  Bowl a bowl to the jack, walk up it’s track and place some form of markers on this line.   Go back to the mat and draw another bowl,  chasing it to the jack and observe how far out your imagined track was.  You will probably have imagined that you saw your bowl turn in much later and more steeply angled to the centre line than actually happened.  This observation will allow you to correct your visualization of your bowl’s track and allow you to make small width adjustments to draw into and through the head.</div>
<div>Next month we will look at playing some advanced shots.  So train your mind and body to develop visualization of your bowl’s track and a good feel for your bowl and it’s weight.</div>
<div>
<div>Good bowling and enjoy.  Ron</div>

<div><strong>Game Directors Report</strong></div>
<div><strong> </strong>Rain, rain, rain, this must surely end soon, as it is playing havoc with our championship games and our bowls. <br />The pairs is up to the semi &#8211; finals, the singles has started.  The consistency will have to be held over for now, as I only have one green for championship games now with morning bowls and it is hard to get markers as ladies would rather play.Pauline Duncan has resigned as assistant games director, I thank her for her help.  Alice Makepeace is taking over this position. I am taking names now for the two day, two bowl triples.  These will not be confirmed until the application form and money has been received.</div>

<div><strong>Mens President Report</strong></div>
<div>At the Men’s AGM I spoke about the declining numbers at bowls club in general.  I also spoke about the need to put strategies in place at Burleigh to attract new members and encourage them to take up the game of bowls.</div>
<div>On Sunday May 6th from 9am to 11am we are going to have “BRING A BUDDY TO BOWLS DAY”.  The idea is to bring along a mate, a relative, a neighbour, or someone you think might be interested in taking up the game.  Age isn’t an issue, in fact the younger the better.</div>
<div>It is not intended to be like barefoot bowls, where anything goes, and we will not be using the old bowls the ‘barefooters’ use.  We intend to show them the concepts and the challenges of the game of bowls.  They may not be interested to take up the game right now but it may start them  thinking about the game.  The idea is to create the interest.</div>
<div>For this to succeed we need your help, so please consider participating by bringing along a buddy.  At the end of the day it can only be positive for Burleigh Bowls.  As the time gets closer I will elaborate more about the day.</div>

<div><strong>Ladies President Report</strong></div>
<div>Another busy month has passed.  Our Club championships are well under way and I wish all participants good bowling.</div>
<div>We held a very successful Sponsor Day on Tuesday 13th of March which was sponsored by ENVISION  and the ladies all enjoyed a delicious luncheon, many thanks to Provider Margaret and her helpers.</div>
<div>A Special General Meeting was held on Thursday 15th of March which was attended by more than 50 Members.  The purpose of the meeting was to resolve a motion, put forward by Chairperson of  Selectors Julie Matthews, to amend the conditions of championship play by allowing lady bowlers to play championship rounds on Saturday mornings.  After much discussion, both for and against, the motion was narrowly defeated in a secret ballot.</div>
<div>On a sad note, another of our lady members, Pat Sprintall, passed away  recently.  Our condolences are extended to her family.</div>
<div>Keep smiling and good bowling.</div>
